Nor is there an arbiter between us, who might lay his hand on us both,

You will call and I – I will answer you; you will long for the creature you have made.

People have opened their mouths against me, they have struck my cheek in scorn; they unite together against me.

whom I will see for myself, and whom my own eyes will behold, and not another. My heart grows faint within me.

Such is the lot God allots the wicked, and the heritage of his appointment from God.”

No one denounces his conduct to his face; no one repays him for what he has done.

And when he is carried to the tombs, and watch is kept over the funeral mound,

“For you took pledges from your brothers for no reason, and you stripped the clothing from the naked.

When people are brought low and you say ‘Lift them up!’ then he will save the downcast;

“How you have helped the powerless! How you have saved the person who has no strength!

the blessing of the dying man descended on me, and I made the widow’s heart rejoice;

But no stranger had to spend the night outside, for I opened my doors to the traveler –

So do not say, ‘We have found wisdom! God will refute him, not man!’

Inside I am like wine which has no outlet, like new wineskins ready to burst!

Do you really think that one who hates justice can govern? And will you declare guilty the supremely righteous One,

“Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let the person who accuses God give him an answer!”

(Who has confronted me that I should repay? Everything under heaven belongs to me!)

It looks on every haughty being; it is king over all that are proud.”

After this Job lived 140 years; he saw his children and their children to the fourth generation.

So the Lord said to Satan, “All right then, everything he has is in your power. Only do not extend your hand against the man himself!” So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.
