They came again to Jerusalem. While Jesus was walking in the temple courts, the chief priests, the experts in the law, and the elders came up to him

At harvest time he sent a slave to the tenants to collect from them his portion of the crop.

He had one left, his one dear son. Finally he sent him to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’

But those tenants said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and the inheritance will be ours!’

Now they wanted to arrest him (but they feared the crowd), because they realized that he told this parable against them. So they left him and went away.

Day after day I was with you, teaching in the temple courts, yet you did not arrest me. But this has happened so that the scriptures would be fulfilled.”

Then they led Jesus to the high priest, and all the chief priests and elders and experts in the law came together.

In the same way even the chief priests – together with the experts in the law – were mocking him among themselves: “He saved others, but he cannot save himself!

And the child kept growing and becoming strong in spirit, and he was in the wilderness until the day he was revealed to Israel.

So the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen; everything was just as they had been told.

But he replied, “Why were you looking for me? Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?”

Even now the ax is laid at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”

But Jesus said to them, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns too, for that is what I was sent to do.”

When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep water and lower your nets for a catch.”

When Jesus perceived their hostile thoughts, he said to them, “Why are you raising objections within yourselves?

But the Pharisees and their experts in the law complained to his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

Jesus answered them, “Those who are well don’t need a physician, but those who are sick do.

So Jesus said to them, “You cannot make the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them, can you?

Jesus answered them, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry –

Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil, to save a life or to destroy it?”
