Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away, for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’

When they had finished mocking him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes back on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.

So the demons came out of the man and went into the pigs, and the herd of pigs rushed down the steep slope into the lake and drowned.

The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying,

Now Herod the tetrarch heard about everything that was happening, and he was thoroughly perplexed, because some people were saying that John had been raised from the dead,

“Take these words to heart, for the Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men.”

Then the seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name!”

But Jesus, realizing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is destroyed, and a divided household falls.

So if Satan too is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? I ask you this because you claim that I cast out demons by Beelzebul.

Now if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges.

But when a stronger man attacks and conquers him, he takes away the first man’s armor on which the man relied and divides up his plunder.

Then he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.
