Herod said, “I had John beheaded, but who is this about whom I hear such things?” So Herod wanted to learn about Jesus.

Then they were all astonished at the mighty power of God.But while the entire crowd was amazed at everything Jesus was doing, he said to his disciples,

John answered, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him because he is not a disciple along with us.”

Now when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do you want us to call fire to come down from heaven and consume them?”

But Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”

Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say goodbye to my family.”

So he said to them, “When you pray, say: Father, may your name be honored; may your kingdom come.

But Jesus, realizing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is destroyed, and a divided household falls.

For this reason also the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,’

But when they bring you before the synagogues, the rulers, and the authorities, do not worry about how you should make your defense or what you should say,

Then he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.

But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded back from you, but who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

He answered them, “Do you think these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered these things?

So Jesus asked the experts in religious law and the Pharisees, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?”

Then he said to them, “Which of you, if you have a son or an ox that has fallen into a well on a Sabbath day, will not immediately pull him out?”

When one of those at the meal with Jesus heard this, he said to him, “Blessed is everyone who will feast in the kingdom of God!”

At the time for the banquet he sent his slave to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, because everything is now ready.’

Another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going out to examine them. Please excuse me.’

So the master said to his slave, ‘Go out to the highways and country roads and urge people to come in, so that my house will be filled.

The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate that will belong to me.’ So he divided his assets between them.
