They devour widows’ property, and as a show make long prayers. They will receive a more severe punishment.”

He said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put in more than all of them.

Then they will see the Son of Man arriving in a cloud with power and great glory.

But when these things begin to happen, stand up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

So also you, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near.

He went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers of the temple guard how he might betray Jesus, handing him over to them.

And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.

For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”

So they said, “Look, Lord, here are two swords.” Then he told them, “It is enough.”

When those who were around him saw what was about to happen, they said, “Lord, should we use our swords?”

But Jesus said, “Enough of this!” And he touched the man’s ear and healed him.

When they had made a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat down among them.

Then they said, “Why do we need further testimony? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips!”

(This was a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection started in the city, and for murder.)

But they were insistent, demanding with loud shouts that he be crucified. And their shouts prevailed.

Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us!’

One of the criminals who was hanging there railed at him, saying, “Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!”

Then they returned and prepared aromatic spices and perfumes. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

and said to them, “Thus it stands written that the Christ would suffer and would rise from the dead on the third day,
