But Jesus said to them, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns too, for that is what I was sent to do.”

He saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gotten out of them and were washing their nets.

When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep water and lower your nets for a catch.”

Simon answered, “Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing! But at your word I will lower the nets.”

Immediately he stood up before them, picked up the stretcher he had been lying on, and went home, glorifying God.

Jesus answered them, “Those who are well don’t need a physician, but those who are sick do.

The experts in the law and the Pharisees watched Jesus closely to see if he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they could find a reason to accuse him.

Now it was during this time that Jesus went out to the mountain to pray, and he spent all night in prayer to God.

Then he looked up at his disciples and said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God belongs to you.

What did you go out to see? A man dressed in fancy clothes? Look, those who wear fancy clothes and live in luxury are in kings’ courts!

Now one of the Pharisees asked Jesus to have dinner with him, so he went into the Pharisee’s house and took his place at the table.

So Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” He replied, “Say it, Teacher.”

For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed, and nothing concealed that will not be made known and brought to light.

because he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. As Jesus was on his way, the crowds pressed around him.

Now they were all wailing and mourning for her, but he said, “Stop your weeping; she is not dead but asleep.”

He said to them, “Take nothing for your journey – no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, and do not take an extra tunic.

Wherever they do not receive you, as you leave that town, shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”

Now Herod the tetrarch heard about everything that was happening, and he was thoroughly perplexed, because some people were saying that John had been raised from the dead,

Herod said, “I had John beheaded, but who is this about whom I hear such things?” So Herod wanted to learn about Jesus.

As he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
