But the person who hears and does not put my words into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the river burst against that house, it collapsed immediately, and was utterly destroyed!”

He also told them a parable: “No one tears a patch from a new garment and sews it on an old garment. If he does, he will have torn the new, and the piece from the new will not match the old.

He won’t thank the slave because he did what he was told, will he?

“Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?” They said, “Caesar’s.”

For which of you, wanting to build a tower, doesn’t sit down first and compute the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it?

“Everyone who comes to me and listens to my words and puts them into practice – I will show you what he is like:

John answered, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him because he is not a disciple along with us.”

“Which one of you, if he has a hundred sheep and loses one of them, would not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture and go look for the one that is lost until he finds it?

He said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you understand it?”

Now at one point the Pharisees asked Jesus when the kingdom of God was coming, so he answered, “The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed,

Blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me.”

Then his disciples asked him what this parable meant.

That servant who knew his master’s will but did not get ready or do what his master asked will receive a severe beating.

“When an unclean spirit goes out of a person, it passes through waterless places looking for rest but not finding any. Then it says, ‘I will return to the home I left.’

Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide yourselves purses that do not wear out – a treasure in heaven that never decreases, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.

So he said to the worker who tended the vineyard, ‘For three years now, I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and each time I inspect it I find none. Cut it down! Why should it continue to deplete the soil?’

Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who doesn’t know the things that have happened there in these days?”

He has demonstrated power with his arm; he has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.

But those who were at the table with him began to say among themselves, “Who is this, who even forgives sins?”

Aren’t five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten before God.
