They brought forward false witnesses who said, “This man does not stop saying things against this holy place and the law.

“Look!” he said. “I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!”

So when the crowds saw what Paul had done, they shouted in the Lycaonian language, “The gods have come down to us in human form!”

When they had brought them before the magistrates, they said, “These men are throwing our city into confusion. They are Jews

She followed behind Paul and us and kept crying out, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you the way of salvation.”

But Paul said to the police officers, “They had us beaten in public without a proper trial – even though we are Roman citizens – and they threw us in prison. And now they want to send us away secretly? Absolutely not! They themselves must come and escort us out!”

Then the man who was possessed by the evil spirit jumped on them and beat them all into submission. He prevailed against them so that they fled from that house naked and wounded.

After the city secretary quieted the crowd, he said, “Men of Ephesus, what person is there who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is the keeper of the temple of the great Artemis and of her image that fell from heaven?

Paul answered, “I am a Jew from Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of an important city. Please allow me to speak to the people.”
