They became greatly distressed and each one began to say to him, “Surely not I, Lord?”

He trusts in God – let God, if he wants to, deliver him now because he said, ‘I am God’s Son’!”

Many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and they will mislead many.

I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me like one of your hired workers.”’

But Peter said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death!”

He confessed – he did not deny but confessed – “I am not the Christ!”

who is coming after me. I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandal!”

Then Jesus said, “I will be with you for only a little while longer, and then I am going to the one who sent me.

You will look for me but will not find me, and where I am you cannot come.”

I testify about myself and the Father who sent me testifies about me.”

So Jesus said to them again, “I tell you the solemn truth, I am the door for the sheep.

“I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me –

You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and do so correctly, for that is what I am.

I am telling you this now, before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe that I am he.

“I am the true vine and my Father is the gardener.

So when Jesus said to them, “I am he,” they retreated and fell to the ground.

Jesus replied, “I told you that I am he. If you are looking for me, let these men go.”

So he said, “Who are you, Lord?” He replied, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting!

But Peter helped him up, saying, “Stand up. I too am a mere mortal.”

Therefore I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of you all.
