And the king said to him, ‘Well done, good slave! Because you have been faithful in a very small matter, you will have authority over ten cities.’

But to all who have received him – those who believe in his name – he has given the right to become God’s children

saying, “Give me this power too, so that everyone I place my hands on may receive the Holy Spirit.”

Has the potter no right to make from the same lump of clay one vessel for special use and another for ordinary use?

Do we not have the right to the company of a believing wife, like the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers and Cephas?

Then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father, when he has brought to an end all rule and all authority and power.

And to the one who conquers and who continues in my deeds until the end, I will give him authority over the nations –

Then out of the smoke came locusts onto the earth, and they were given power like that of the scorpions of the earth.

These two have the power to close up the sky so that it does not rain during the time they are prophesying. They have power to turn the waters to blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague whenever they want.

But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins” – then he said to the paralytic – “Stand up, take your stretcher, and go home.”

Now after Jesus entered the temple courts, the chief priests and elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching and said, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?”

They were all amazed so that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He even commands the unclean spirits and they obey him.”

It is like a man going on a journey. He left his house and put his slaves in charge, assigning to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to stay alert.

And he said to him, “To you I will grant this whole realm – and the glory that goes along with it, for it has been relinquished to me, and I can give it to anyone I wish.

For I too am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me. I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

Look, I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions and on the full force of the enemy, and nothing will hurt you.

But I will warn you whom you should fear: Fear the one who, after the killing, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him!

and said to him, “Tell us: By what authority are you doing these things? Or who it is who gave you this authority?”
