But when the feast was over, as they were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it,

Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘You are to worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’”

Then Jesus, in the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and news about him spread throughout the surrounding countryside.

When Jesus perceived their hostile thoughts, he said to them, “Why are you raising objections within yourselves?

Jesus answered them, “Those who are well don’t need a physician, but those who are sick do.

So Jesus said to them, “You cannot make the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them, can you?

Jesus answered them, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry –

Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil, to save a life or to destroy it?”

So Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” He replied, “Say it, Teacher.”

Jesus then asked him, “What is your name?” He said, “Legion,” because many demons had entered him.

After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. So they kept silent and told no one at that time anything of what they had seen.

The expert in religious law said, “The one who showed mercy to him.” So Jesus said to him, “Go and do the same.”

So Jesus asked the experts in religious law and the Pharisees, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?”

When Jesus noticed this, he said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!

Then Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this household, because he too is a son of Abraham!

Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders who had come out to get him, “Have you come out with swords and clubs like you would against an outlaw?

But Jesus turned to them and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.

[But Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.”] Then they threw dice to divide his clothes.

Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And after he said this he breathed his last.

At the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was named Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
