King Hezekiah of Judah sent this message to the king of Assyria, who was at Lachish, “I have violated our treaty. If you leave, I will do whatever you demand.” So the king of Assyria demanded that King Hezekiah of Judah pay three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

The fifty members of the prophetic guild went and stood opposite them at a distance, while Elijah and Elisha stood by the Jordan.

So he picked him up and took him to his mother. He sat on her lap until noon and then died.

She went up and laid him down on the prophet’s bed. She shut the door behind her and left.

When Elisha arrived at the house, there was the child lying dead on his bed.

So he sent horses and chariots there, along with a good-sized army. They arrived during the night and surrounded the city.

During his reign Edom freed themselves from Judah’s control and set up their own king.

Jehu ordered the one who was in charge of the wardrobe, “Bring out robes for all the servants of Baal.” So he brought out robes for them.

Jehu reigned over Israel for twenty-eight years in Samaria.

He hid out with his nurse in the Lord’s temple for six years, while Athaliah was ruling over the land.

Conspirators plotted against him in Jerusalem, so he fled to Lachish. But they sent assassins after him and they killed him there.

His body was carried back by horses and he was buried in Jerusalem with his ancestors in the city of David.

Shallum son of Jabesh conspired against him; he assassinated him in Ibleam and took his place as king.

He offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree.

King Shalmaneser of Assyria threatened him; Hoshea became his subject and paid him tribute.
