Solomon ruled over all Israel from Jerusalem for forty years.

In King Rehoboam’s fifth year, King Shishak of Egypt attacked Jerusalem.

In the eighteenth year of the reign of Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijah became king over Judah.

He ruled for three years in Jerusalem. His mother was Maacah, the daughter of Abishalom.

He ruled for forty-one years in Jerusalem. His grandmother was Maacah daughter of Abishalom.

Now Asa and King Baasha of Israel were continually at war with each other.

Baasha killed him in the third year of Asa’s reign over Judah and replaced him as king.

Asa and King Nadab of Israel were continually at war with each other.

Zimri came in and struck him dead. (This happened in the twenty-seventh year of Asa’s reign over Judah.) Zimri replaced Elah as king.

The king of Israel replied, “It is just as you say, my master, O king. I and all I own belong to you.”

The king of Israel replied, “Tell him the one who puts on his battle gear should not boast like one who is taking it off.”

Then the king of Israel marched out and struck down the horses and chariots; he thoroughly defeated Syria.

The king of Israel went home to Samaria bitter and angry.

Then Jehoshaphat added, “First seek an oracle from the Lord.”

The king of Israel summoned an official and said, “Quickly bring Micaiah son of Imlah.”

When the chariot commanders realized he was not the king of Israel, they turned away from him.

If these people go up to offer sacrifices in the Lord’s temple in Jerusalem, their loyalty could shift to their former master, King Rehoboam of Judah. They might kill me and return to King Rehoboam of Judah.”

In the thirty-eighth year of Asa’s reign over Judah, Omri’s son Ahab became king over Israel. Ahab son of Omri ruled over Israel for twenty-two years in Samaria.

Now King Ben Hadad of Syria assembled all his army, along with thirty-two other kings with their horses and chariots. He marched against Samaria and besieged and attacked it.

The prophet visited the king of Israel and instructed him, “Go, fortify your defenses. Determine what you must do, for in the spring the king of Syria will attack you.”
