Then David chanted this lament over Saul and his son Jonathan.

How the warriors have fallen in the midst of battle! Jonathan lies slain on your high places!

When he taunted Israel, Jonathan, the son of David’s brother Shimeah, killed him.

The son of Jonathan: Meribbaal. Meribbaal was the father of Micah.

The Philistines stayed right on the heels of Saul and his sons. They struck down Saul’s sons Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malki-Shua.

From the blood of the slain, from the fat of warriors, the bow of Jonathan was not turned away. The sword of Saul never returned empty.

I grieve over you, my brother Jonathan! You were very dear to me. Your love was more special to me than the love of women.

Then David asked, “Is anyone still left from the family of Saul, so that I may extend kindness to him for the sake of Jonathan?”

When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he bowed low with his face toward the ground. David said, “Mephibosheth?” He replied, “Yes, at your service.”

David brought the bones of Saul and of Jonathan his son from there; they also gathered up the bones of those who had been executed.

Azmaveth son of Adiel was in charge of the king’s storehouses; Jonathan son of Uzziah was in charge of the storehouses in the field, in the cities, in the towns, and in the towers.

The officials were very angry at Jeremiah. They had him flogged and put in prison in the house of Jonathan, the royal secretary, which they had converted into a place for confining prisoners.
