When day came, the council of the elders of the people gathered together, both the chief priests and the experts in the law. Then they led Jesus away to their council

So they all said, “Are you the Son of God, then?” He answered them, “You say that I am.”

Even Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him. Then, dressing him in elegant clothes, Herod sent him back to Pilate.

That very day Herod and Pilate became friends with each other, for prior to this they had been enemies.

He released the man they asked for, who had been thrown in prison for insurrection and murder. But he handed Jesus over to their will.

So when they came to the place that is called “The Skull,” they crucified him there, along with the criminals, one on his right and one on his left.

But the other rebuked him, saying, “Don’t you fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?

And all those who knew Jesus stood at a distance, and the women who had followed him from Galilee saw these things.

that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.”

Then some of those who were with us went to the tomb, and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see him.”

So he said to them, “You foolish people – how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!

They said to each other, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us while he was speaking with us on the road, while he was explaining the scriptures to us?”

So they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem. They found the eleven and those with them gathered together

During the reign of Herod king of Judea, there lived a priest named Zechariah who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah, and he had a wife named Elizabeth, who was a descendant of Aaron.

But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son; you will name him John.

For nothing will be impossible with God.”

As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, “The voice of one shouting in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make his paths straight.

and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my one dear Son; in you I take great delight.”

Now Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read,
