They discussed with one another, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’

They devour widows’ property, and as a show make long prayers. These men will receive a more severe punishment.”

“Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that all these things are about to take place?”

Many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and they will mislead many.

When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. These things must happen, but the end is still to come.

You will be hated by everyone because of my name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

The one in the field must not turn back to get his cloak.

Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe him.

Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus into their hands.

He said to them, “This is my blood, the blood of the covenant, that is poured out for many.

Stay awake and pray that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Now while Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the high priest’s slave girls came by.

When the slave girl saw him, she began again to say to the bystanders, “This man is one of them.”

Then he began to curse, and he swore with an oath, “I do not know this man you are talking about!”

So the soldiers led him into the palace (that is, the governor’s residence) and called together the whole cohort.

Now when it was noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.

Pilate was surprised that he was already dead. He called the centurion and asked him if he had been dead for some time.

And very early on the first day of the week, at sunrise, they went to the tomb.

They had been asking each other, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?”

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
