They said to her, “But none of your relatives bears this name.”

Now in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus to register all the empire for taxes.

When they saw him, they related what they had been told about this child,

But Mary treasured up all these words, pondering in her heart what they might mean.

Then he began to tell them, “Today this scripture has been fulfilled even as you heard it being read.”

But those days are coming, and when the bridegroom is taken from them, at that time they will fast.”

This report about Jesus circulated throughout Judea and all the surrounding country.

But those who were at the table with him began to say among themselves, “Who is this, who even forgives sins?”

But whenever you enter a town and the people do not welcome you, go into its streets and say,

Now by chance a priest was going down that road, but when he saw the injured man he passed by on the other side.

Which of these three do you think became a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?”

One of the experts in religious law answered him, “Teacher, when you say these things you insult us too.”

so that this generation may be held accountable for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning of the world,

Even if he comes in the second or third watch of the night and finds them alert, blessed are those slaves!

Then Peter said, “Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for everyone?”

Blessed is that slave whom his master finds at work when he returns.

For I tell you, not one of those individuals who were invited will taste my banquet!’”

But the Pharisees and the experts in the law were complaining, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

Then after he had spent everything, a severe famine took place in that country, and he began to be in need.

Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will preserve it.
