At harvest time he sent a slave to the tenants to collect from them his portion of the crop.

But those tenants said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and the inheritance will be ours!’

Now one of the experts in the law came and heard them debating. When he saw that Jesus answered them well, he asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?”

The expert in the law said to him, “That is true, Teacher; you are right to say that he is one, and there is no one else besides him.

While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, he said, “How is it that the experts in the law say that the Christ is David’s son?

Jesus said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left on another. All will be torn down!”

For nation will rise up in arms against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines. These are but the beginning of birth pains.

And if the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would be saved. But because of the elect, whom he chose, he has cut them short.

“But in those days, after that suffering, the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light;

For you will always have the poor with you, and you can do good for them whenever you want. But you will not always have me!

I tell you the truth, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”

Jesus said to him, “I tell you the truth, today – this very night – before a rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.”

But Peter insisted emphatically, “Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you.” And all of them said the same thing.

He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Take this cup away from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

One of the bystanders drew his sword and struck the high priest’s slave, cutting off his ear.

Day after day I was with you, teaching in the temple courts, yet you did not arrest me. But this has happened so that the scriptures would be fulfilled.”

“We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with hands and in three days build another not made with hands.’”

Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, “Have you no answer? What is this that they are testifying against you?”

But he denied it: “I don’t even understand what you’re talking about!” Then he went out to the gateway, and a rooster crowed.
