The Jewish leaders replied, “We have a law, and according to our law he ought to die, because he claimed to be the Son of God!”

and he went back into the governor’s residence and said to Jesus, “Where do you come from?” But Jesus gave him no answer.

So Pilate said, “Do you refuse to speak to me? Don’t you know I have the authority to release you, and to crucify you?”

So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the two men who had been crucified with Jesus, first the one and then the other.

Then Simon Peter, who had been following him, arrived and went right into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen cloth lying there,

(Now Jesus said this to indicate clearly by what kind of death Peter was going to glorify God.) After he said this, Jesus told Peter, “Follow me.”

Jesus replied, “If I want him to live until I come back, what concern is that of yours? You follow me!”

So then, because he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one of his descendants on his throne,

And we are witnesses of these events, and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.”

and they summoned the apostles and had them beaten. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus and released them.

But when he was about forty years old, it entered his mind to visit his fellow countrymen the Israelites.

“After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the desert of Mount Sinai, in the flame of a burning bush.

But the Lord said to him, ‘Take the sandals off your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.

The man replied, “How in the world can I, unless someone guides me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

So Philip started speaking, and beginning with this scripture proclaimed the good news about Jesus to him.

Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus the Christ heals you. Get up and make your own bed!” And immediately he got up.

About three o’clock one afternoon he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God who came in and said to him, “Cornelius.”

So Peter invited them in and entertained them as guests. On the next day he got up and set out with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.

So when Peter came in, Cornelius met him, fell at his feet, and worshiped him.

and for many days he appeared to those who had accompanied him from Galilee to Jerusalem. These are now his witnesses to the people.
