So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, because Jesus was going to pass that way.

but they could not find a way to do it, for all the people hung on his words.

The chief priests and the experts in the law were trying to find some way to execute Jesus, for they were afraid of the people.

He went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers of the temple guard how he might betray Jesus, handing him over to them.

Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us to eat.”

And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.

When those who were around him saw what was about to happen, they said, “Lord, should we use our swords?”

Then they returned and prepared aromatic spices and perfumes. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

Now on the first day of the week, at early dawn, the women went to the tomb, taking the aromatic spices they had prepared.

And the light shines on in the darkness, but the darkness has not mastered it.

For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.

The one who eats my flesh and drinks my blood resides in me, and I in him.

But if anyone walks around at night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.”

Because they had heard that Jesus had performed this miraculous sign, the crowd went out to meet him.

Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”

Then the disciple whom Jesus loved leaned back against Jesus’ chest and asked him, “Lord, who is it?”

But they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me.

I glorified you on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.

And so, because it was the Jewish day of preparation and the tomb was nearby, they placed Jesus’ body there.

But Mary stood outside the tomb weeping. As she wept, she bent down and looked into the tomb.
