This fulfilled what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet:

Then the disciples came to him and said, “Why do you speak to them in parables?”

because John had repeatedly told him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.”

Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Then Pharisees and experts in the law came from Jerusalem to Jesus and said,

But she came and bowed down before him and said, “Lord, help me!”

So they began to discuss this among themselves, saying, “It is because we brought no bread.”

They said to him, “Why then did Moses command us to give a certificate of dismissal and to divorce her?”

The young man said to him, “I have wholeheartedly obeyed all these laws. What do I still lack?”

The disciples were greatly astonished when they heard this and said, “Then who can be saved?”

They said to him, “Lord, let our eyes be opened.”

This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet:

When the disciples saw it they were amazed, saying, “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?”

Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying:

Jesus said to them, “Whose image is this, and whose inscription?”

“The experts in the law and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat.

I tell you the truth, this generation will be held responsible for all these things!

I tell you the truth, the master will put him in charge of all his possessions.

Later, the other virgins came too, saying, ‘Lord, lord! Let us in!’

But he replied, ‘I tell you the truth, I do not know you!’
