Then the disciples came to him and said, “Why do you speak to them in parables?”

“But your eyes are blessed because they see, and your ears because they hear.

Not counting women and children, there were about five thousand men who ate.

Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Not counting children and women, there were four thousand men who ate.

When the disciples went to the other side, they forgot to take bread.

So they began to discuss this among themselves, saying, “It is because we brought no bread.”

When the disciples heard this, they were overwhelmed with fear and threw themselves down with their faces to the ground.

Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them about John the Baptist.

The disciples were greatly astonished when they heard this and said, “Then who can be saved?”

So they went. When he went out again about noon and three o’clock that afternoon, he did the same thing.

When those hired about five o’clock came, each received a full day’s pay.

Now when the other ten heard this, they were angry with the two brothers.

They said to him, “Lord, let our eyes be opened.”

So the disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them.

When the disciples saw it they were amazed, saying, “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?”

The rest seized his slaves, insolently mistreated them, and killed them.

Then the Pharisees went out and planned together to entrap him with his own words.

Show me the coin used for the tax.” So they brought him a denarius.

When the crowds heard this, they were amazed at his teaching.
