Tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him, “Teacher, what should we do?”

“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do what I tell you?

What did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

He said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you understand it?”

plotting against him, to catch him in something he might say.

So if you cannot do such a very little thing as this, why do you worry about the rest?

“I have come to bring fire on the earth – and how I wish it were already kindled!

“And why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right?

So he called one of the slaves and asked what was happening.

And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unrighteous judge says!

When he heard a crowd going by, he asked what was going on.

“What do you want me to do for you?” He replied, “Lord, let me see again.”

For if such things are done when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?”

(Now Jesus said this to test him, for he knew what he was going to do.)

So then they said to him, “What must we do to accomplish the deeds God requires?”

Then they said to him, “What did he do to you? How did he cause you to see?”

“Why wasn’t this oil sold for three hundred silver coins and the money given to the poor?”

(Now none of those present at the table understood why Jesus said this to Judas.
