“This is how you will divide this land for yourselves among the tribes of Israel.

Intermarry with us. Let us marry your daughters, and take our daughters as wives for yourselves.

Israel said, “Why did you bring this trouble on me by telling the man you had one more brother?”

You go get straw for yourselves wherever you can find it, because there will be no reduction at all in your workload.’”

So now, get back to work! You will not be given straw, but you must still produce your quota of bricks!”

Your lamb must be perfect, a male, one year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats.

When your children ask you, ‘What does this ceremony mean to you?’ –

You must not make gods of silver alongside me, nor make gods of gold for yourselves.

And the incense that you are to make, you must not make for yourselves using the same recipe; it is to be most holy to you, belonging to the Lord.

The rock badger is unclean to you because it chews the cud even though its hoof is not divided.

The hare is unclean to you because it chews the cud even though its hoof is not divided.

You must not eat from their meat and you must not touch their carcasses; they are unclean to you.

Since they are detestable to you, you must not eat their meat and their carcass you must detest.

Any creature in the water that does not have both fins and scales is detestable to you.

“‘Every winged swarming thing that walks on all fours is detestable to you.

But any other winged swarming thing that has four legs is detestable to you.

and the one who carries their carcass must wash his clothes and be unclean until the evening; they are unclean to you.
