If a man denounces his friends for personal gain, the eyes of his children will fail.

who says to a king, ‘Worthless man’ and to nobles, ‘Wicked men,’

Scatter abroad the abundance of your anger. Look at every proud man and bring him low;

Look at every proud man and abase him; crush the wicked on the spot!

But Satan answered the Lord, “Skin for skin! Indeed, a man will give up all that he has to save his life!

Like a servant longing for the evening shadow, and like a hired man looking for his wages,

Look away from him and let him desist, until he fulfills his time like a hired man.

Upright men are appalled at this; the innocent man is troubled with the godless.

But the righteous man holds to his way, and the one with clean hands grows stronger.

If a man dies, will he live again? All the days of my hard service I will wait until my release comes.

All his days the wicked man suffers torment, throughout the number of the years that are stored up for the tyrant.

Do you intend to criticize mere words, and treat the words of a despairing man as wind?

“Surely one does not stretch out his hand against a broken man when he cries for help in his distress.

that the evil man is spared from the day of his misfortune, that he is delivered from the day of God’s wrath?

So the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one like him on the earth, a pure and upright man, one who fears God and turns away from evil.”
