He saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gotten out of them and were washing their nets.

Then Levi gave a great banquet in his house for Jesus, and there was a large crowd of tax collectors and others sitting at the table with them.

Jesus was going through the grain fields on a Sabbath, and his disciples picked some heads of wheat, rubbed them in their hands, and ate them.

Jesus answered them, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry –

Then he looked up at his disciples and said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God belongs to you.

“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.

And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same.

When they came to Jesus, they urged him earnestly, “He is worthy to have you do this for him,

Soon afterward Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went with him.

Then he came up and touched the bier, and those who carried it stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!”

What did you go out to see? A man dressed in fancy clothes? Look, those who wear fancy clothes and live in luxury are in kings’ courts!

Some time afterward he went on through towns and villages, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The twelve were with him,

“No one lights a lamp and then covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a lampstand so that those who come in can see the light.

Now Jesus’ mother and his brothers came to him, but they could not get near him because of the crowd.

But he replied to them, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it.”

When the herdsmen saw what had happened, they ran off and spread the news in the town and countryside.

because he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. As Jesus was on his way, the crowds pressed around him.

When the apostles returned, they told Jesus everything they had done. Then he took them with him and they withdrew privately to a town called Bethsaida.

They answered, “John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others that one of the prophets of long ago has risen.”

But I tell you most certainly, there are some standing here who will not experience death before they see the kingdom of God.”
