if I have covered my transgressions as men do, by hiding iniquity in my heart,

It is not the aged who are wise, nor old men who understand what is right.

Job has not directed his words to me, and so I will not reply to him with your arguments.

Concerning my right, should I lie? My wound is incurable, although I am without transgression.’

Who entrusted to him the earth? And who put him over the whole world?

If they obey and serve him, they live out their days in prosperity and their years in pleasantness.

when I said, ‘To here you may come and no farther, here your proud waves will be confined’?

The earth takes shape like clay under a seal; its features are dyed like a garment.

In what direction is lightning dispersed, or the east winds scattered over the earth?

But as soon as she springs up, she laughs at the horse and its rider.

It laughs at fear and is not dismayed; it does not shy away from the sword.

(40:25) “Can you pull in Leviathan with a hook, and tie down its tongue with a rope?

You said, ‘Pay attention, and I will speak; I will question you, and you will answer me.’

After this Job lived 140 years; he saw his children and their children to the fourth generation.

So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and offer a burnt offering for yourselves. And my servant Job will intercede for you, and I will respect him, so that I do not deal with you according to your folly, because you have not spoken about me what is right, as my servant Job has.”

In all this Job did not sin, nor did he charge God with moral impropriety.

or with princes who possessed gold, who filled their palaces with silver.

There the wicked cease from turmoil, and there the weary are at rest.

who rejoice even to jubilation, and are exultant when they find the grave?

For wrath kills the foolish person, and anger slays the silly one.
