So Abimelech and all his men came up at night and set an ambush outside Shechem – they divided into four units.

a woman threw an upper millstone down on his head and shattered his skull.

He struck them down and defeated them. Then he went down and lived for a time in the cave in the cliff of Etam.

Boaz asked his servant in charge of the harvesters, “To whom does this young woman belong?”

The Spirit of God rushed upon Saul when he heard these words, and he became very angry.

Then David chanted this lament over Saul and his son Jonathan.

How the warriors have fallen in the midst of battle! Jonathan lies slain on your high places!

David reigned over all Israel; he guaranteed justice for all his people.

Joab son of Zeruiah was general in command of the army; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was secretary;
