John answered them, “The person who has two tunics must share with the person who has none, and the person who has food must do likewise.”

While the people were filled with anticipation and they all wondered whether perhaps John could be the Christ,

But when John rebuked Herod the tetrarch because of Herodias, his brother’s wife, and because of all the evil deeds that he had done,

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and the regaining of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed,

“Ha! Leave us alone, Jesus the Nazarene! Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are – the Holy One of God.”

But Jesus said to them, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns too, for that is what I was sent to do.”

He saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gotten out of them and were washing their nets.

When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep water and lower your nets for a catch.”

Simon answered, “Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing! But at your word I will lower the nets.”

Immediately he stood up before them, picked up the stretcher he had been lying on, and went home, glorifying God.

Jesus answered them, “Those who are well don’t need a physician, but those who are sick do.

The experts in the law and the Pharisees watched Jesus closely to see if he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they could find a reason to accuse him.

Now it was during this time that Jesus went out to the mountain to pray, and he spent all night in prayer to God.

Then he looked up at his disciples and said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God belongs to you.

What did you go out to see? A man dressed in fancy clothes? Look, those who wear fancy clothes and live in luxury are in kings’ courts!

Now one of the Pharisees asked Jesus to have dinner with him, so he went into the Pharisee’s house and took his place at the table.

So Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” He replied, “Say it, Teacher.”

For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed, and nothing concealed that will not be made known and brought to light.

because he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. As Jesus was on his way, the crowds pressed around him.

Now they were all wailing and mourning for her, but he said, “Stop your weeping; she is not dead but asleep.”
