But he has no root in himself and does not endure; when trouble or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he falls away.

And so they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own house.”

“Why do your disciples disobey the tradition of the elders? For they don’t wash their hands when they eat.”

What defiles a person is not what goes into the mouth; it is what comes out of the mouth that defiles a person.”

And he replied, “Every plant that my heavenly Father did not plant will be uprooted.

Don’t you understand that whatever goes into the mouth enters the stomach and then passes out into the sewer?

So Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him: “God forbid, Lord! This must not happen to you!”

Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why couldn’t we cast it out?”

After they arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the temple tax came to Peter and said, “Your teacher pays the double drachma tax, doesn’t he?”

and said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn around and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven!

He answered, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator made them male and female,

Jesus said to them, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because of your hard hearts, but from the beginning it was not this way.

The disciples said to him, “If this is the case of a husband with a wife, it is better not to marry!”

Am I not permitted to do what I want with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous?’

just as the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.” Then he said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
