So the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this man your place.’ Then, ashamed, you will begin to move to the least important place.

At the time for the banquet he sent his slave to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, because everything is now ready.’

So the master said to his slave, ‘Go out to the highways and country roads and urge people to come in, so that my house will be filled.

The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate that will belong to me.’ So he divided his assets between them.

(for I have five brothers) to warn them so that they don’t come into this place of torment.’

It would be better for him to have a millstone tied around his neck and be thrown into the sea than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin.

For just like the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be in his day.

For a while he refused, but later on he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor have regard for people,

You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.’”

And immediately he regained his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they too gave praise to God.

He was trying to get a look at Jesus, but being a short man he could not see over the crowd.

Then he began to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard, leased it to tenant farmers, and went on a journey for a long time.

He will come and destroy those tenants and give the vineyard to others.” When the people heard this, they said, “May this never happen!”

But even Moses revealed that the dead are raised in the passage about the bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.

Then one of them struck the high priest’s slave, cutting off his right ear.

But they persisted in saying, “He incites the people by teaching throughout all Judea. It started in Galilee and ended up here!”

As they led him away, they seized Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country. They placed the cross on his back and made him carry it behind Jesus.

But the other rebuked him, saying, “Don’t you fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?

Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he praised God and said, “Certainly this man was innocent!”

The women were terribly frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?
