Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep, and laid the foundation on bedrock. When a flood came, the river burst against that house but could not shake it, because it had been well built.

So Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to say to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof.

John’s disciples informed him about all these things. So John called two of his disciples

And they began to beg him not to order them to depart into the abyss.

Then they departed and went throughout the villages, proclaiming the good news and healing people everywhere.

Now the day began to draw to a close, so the twelve came and said to Jesus, “Send the crowd away, so they can go into the surrounding villages and countryside and find lodging and food, because we are in an isolated place.”

But he forcefully commanded them not to tell this to anyone,

I begged your disciples to cast it out, but they could not do so.”

Now an argument started among the disciples as to which of them might be the greatest.

and said to them, “Whoever welcomes this child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me, for the one who is least among you all is the one who is great.”

but the villagers refused to welcome him, because he was determined to go to Jerusalem.

Whenever you enter a house, first say, ‘May peace be on this house!’

But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you!

And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? No, you will be thrown down to Hades!

So too a Levite, when he came up to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.

But give from your heart to those in need, and then everything will be clean for you.

So it is with the one who stores up riches for himself, but is not rich toward God.”
