and he went back into the governor’s residence and said to Jesus, “Where do you come from?” But Jesus gave him no answer.

So Pilate said, “Do you refuse to speak to me? Don’t you know I have the authority to release you, and to crucify you?”

When Pilate heard these words he brought Jesus outside and sat down on the judgment seat in the place called “The Stone Pavement” (Gabbatha in Aramaic).

(Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover, about noon.) Pilate said to the Jewish leaders, “Look, here is your king!”

So when Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing there, he said to his mother, “Woman, look, here is your son!”

He then said to his disciple, “Look, here is your mother!” From that very time the disciple took her into his own home.

And the person who saw it has testified (and his testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truth), so that you also may believe.

(Now Jesus said this to indicate clearly by what kind of death Peter was going to glorify God.) After he said this, Jesus told Peter, “Follow me.”

Jesus replied, “If I want him to live until I come back, what concern is that of yours? You follow me!”

So when they had gathered together, they began to ask him, “Lord, is this the time when you are restoring the kingdom to Israel?”

For David says about him, ‘I saw the Lord always in front of me, for he is at my right hand so that I will not be shaken.

For David did not ascend into heaven, but he himself says, ‘The Lord said to my lord, “Sit at my right hand

With many other words he testified and exhorted them saying, “Save yourselves from this perverse generation!”

When they were released, Peter and John went to their fellow believers and reported everything the high priests and the elders had said to them.

But some men from the Synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called), both Cyrenians and Alexandrians, as well as some from Cilicia and the province of Asia, stood up and argued with Stephen.

They brought forward false witnesses who said, “This man does not stop saying things against this holy place and the law.
