Whenever you enter a town and the people welcome you, eat what is set before you.

But whenever you enter a town and the people do not welcome you, go into its streets and say,

Now by chance a priest was going down that road, but when he saw the injured man he passed by on the other side.

“Exert every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.

Nevertheless I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the next day, because it is impossible that a prophet should be killed outside Jerusalem.’

But Jesus said to him, “A man once gave a great banquet and invited many guests.

Whoever does not carry his own cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish the tower, all who see it will begin to make fun of him.

It is of no value for the soil or for the manure pile; it is to be thrown out. The one who has ears to hear had better listen!”

Then after he had spent everything, a severe famine took place in that country, and he began to be in need.
