In the first year of Darius son of Ahasuerus, who was of Median descent and who had been appointed king over the Babylonian empire –

God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: plants yielding seeds according to their kinds, and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds.” It was so.

This is my requirement that you and your descendants after you must keep: Every male among you must be circumcised.

May he give you and your descendants the blessing he gave to Abraham so that you may possess the land God gave to Abraham, the land where you have been living as a temporary resident.”

But you said, ‘I will certainly make you prosper and will make your descendants like the sand on the seashore, too numerous to count.’”

The land I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to you. To your descendants I will also give this land.”

Jacob and all his descendants took their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and they went to Egypt.
