But you who remained faithful to the Lord your God are still alive to this very day, every one of you.

“So the trees said to the fig tree, ‘You come and be our king!’

“So the trees said to the grapevine, ‘You come and be our king!’

But if you continue to do evil, both you and your king will be swept away.”

The king said, “Find out whose son this boy is!”

Saul replied, “May you be blessed by the Lord, for you have had compassion on me.

He asked me, ‘Who are you?’ I told him, ‘I’m an Amalekite.’

Indeed, you are my lamp, Lord. The Lord illumines the darkness around me.

Now you say, ‘Go and say to your master, “Elijah is back.”’

But if you will look to God, and make your supplication to the Almighty,

“As for you, if you prove faithful, and if you stretch out your hands toward him,

For you will forget your trouble; you will remember it like water that has flowed away.

“Without a doubt you are the people, and wisdom will die with you.

But you, however, are inventors of lies; all of you are worthless physicians!

But you even break off piety, and hinder meditation before God.

If I cry to corruption, ‘You are my father,’ and to the worm, ‘My Mother,’ or ‘My sister,’

If you yourselves have all seen this, Why in the world do you continue this meaningless talk?

If not, you listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.”

But you, Lord, are a shield that protects me; you are my glory and the one who restores me.

I say to the Lord, “You are the Lord, my only source of well-being.”
