Ahab sent messengers to all the Israelites and had the prophets assemble at Mount Carmel.

All the leaders and people said to him, “Do not give in or agree to his demands.”

The king of Israel replied, “Tell him the one who puts on his battle gear should not boast like one who is taking it off.”

But Naboth replied to Ahab, “The Lord forbid that I should sell you my ancestral inheritance.”

In the third year King Jehoshaphat of Judah came down to visit the king of Israel.

Then Jehoshaphat added, “First seek an oracle from the Lord.”

The king of Israel summoned an official and said, “Quickly bring Micaiah son of Imlah.”

When they came back, Elisha was staying in Jericho. He said to them, “Didn’t I tell you, ‘Don’t go’?”

One day Elisha came for a visit; he went into the upper room and rested.

He told his servant Gehazi, “Ask the Shunammite woman to come here.” So he did so and she came to him.

So he picked him up and took him to his mother. He sat on her lap until noon and then died.

When he arrived at the hill, he took them from the servants and put them in the house. Then he sent the men on their way.

He replied, “Don’t be afraid, for our side outnumbers them.”

When the king of Israel saw them, he asked Elisha, “Should I strike them down, my master?”

He replied, “No, let the Lord help you. How can I help you? The threshing floor and winepress are empty.”

Jehoram turned his chariot around and took off. He said to Ahaziah, “It’s a trap, Ahaziah!”

He said, “Throw her down!” So they threw her down, and when she hit the ground, her blood splattered against the wall and the horses, and Jehu drove his chariot over her.

When Athaliah heard the royal guard shout, she joined the crowd at the Lord’s temple.

I will shield this city and rescue it for the sake of my reputation and because of my promise to David my servant.’”

They captured the king and brought him up to the king of Babylon at Riblah, where he passed sentence on him.
