When he had finished speaking all these words, the ground that was under them split open,

All the Israelites who were around them fled at their cry, for they said, “What if the earth swallows us too?”

The Israelites said to Moses, “We are bound to die! We perish, we all perish!

(17:28) Anyone who even comes close to the tabernacle of the Lord will die! Are we all to die?”

You are to eat it as a most holy offering; every male may eat it. It will be holy to you.

And every open container that has no covering fastened on it is unclean.

And whatever the unclean person touches will be unclean, and the person who touches it will be unclean until evening.’”

So the entire company of Israelites traveled from Kadesh and came to Mount Hor.

So Moses did as the Lord commanded; and they went up Mount Hor in the sight of the whole community.

Balak son of Zippor saw all that the Israelites had done to the Amorites.

So he returned to him, and he was still standing by his burnt offering, he and all the princes of Moab.

All the families of the Shuhahites according to those numbered of them were 64,400.

“Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all humankind, appoint a man over the community,

set him before Eleazar the priest and before the whole community, and commission him publicly.

Then you must delegate some of your authority to him, so that the whole community of the Israelites will be obedient.

And on the first day there is to be a holy assembly; you must do no ordinary work on it.

On the seventh day you are to have a holy assembly, you must do no regular work.

“‘On the eighth day you are to have a holy assembly; you must do no ordinary work on it.

“But every vow of a widow or of a divorced woman which she has pledged for herself will remain intact.

You must send to the battle a thousand men from every tribe throughout all the tribes of Israel.”
