Then one of the synagogue rulers, named Jairus, came up, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet.

He strictly ordered that no one should know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.

So Herodias nursed a grudge against him and wanted to kill him. But she could not

Now when Jesus had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about the parable.

And immediately the man’s ears were opened, his tongue loosened, and he spoke plainly.

His disciples answered him, “Where can someone get enough bread in this desolate place to satisfy these people?”

He spoke openly about this. So Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.

But I tell you that Elijah has certainly come, and they did to him whatever they wanted, just as it is written about him.”

When they came to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and experts in the law arguing with them.

When the whole crowd saw him, they were amazed and ran at once and greeted him.

Then some Pharisees came, and to test him they asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”

Then they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to trap him with his own words.

Sadducees (who say there is no resurrection) also came to him and asked him,

In the resurrection, when they rise again, whose wife will she be? For all seven had married her.”

But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why are you bothering her? She has done a good service for me.

Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus into their hands.

When they heard this, they were delighted and promised to give him money. So Judas began looking for an opportunity to betray him.

When the slave girl saw him, she began again to say to the bystanders, “This man is one of them.”

Pilate asked them, “Why? What has he done wrong?” But they shouted more insistently, “Crucify him!”

People from the whole Judean countryside and all of Jerusalem were going out to him, and he was baptizing them in the Jordan River as they confessed their sins.
