Then a man from the crowd cried out, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son – he is my only child!

John answered, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him because he is not a disciple along with us.”

Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say goodbye to my family.”

Now an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus, saying, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

and forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And do not lead us into temptation.”

Then someone from the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”

Jesus also said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, ‘A rainstorm is coming,’ and it does.

But the worker answered him, ‘Sir, leave it alone this year too, until I dig around it and put fertilizer on it.

Now one Sabbath when Jesus went to dine at the house of a leader of the Pharisees, they were watching him closely.

“When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, because a person more distinguished than you may have been invited by your host.

Another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going out to examine them. Please excuse me.’

I will get up and go to my father and say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.

It was appropriate to celebrate and be glad, for your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost and is found.’”

Even if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times returns to you saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.”

But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to be their king, bring them here and slaughter them in front of me!’”

And when you hear of wars and rebellions, do not be afraid. For these things must happen first, but the end will not come at once.”

But stay alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that must happen, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”

that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders who had come out to get him, “Have you come out with swords and clubs like you would against an outlaw?
