But when the feast was over, as they were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it,

After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.

But he replied, “Why were you looking for me? Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?”

But Jesus said to them, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns too, for that is what I was sent to do.”

When Jesus perceived their hostile thoughts, he said to them, “Why are you raising objections within yourselves?

Jesus answered them, “Those who are well don’t need a physician, but those who are sick do.

So Jesus said to them, “You cannot make the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them, can you?

Jesus answered them, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry –

Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil, to save a life or to destroy it?”

After looking around at them all, he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” The man did so, and his hand was restored.

“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.

“Everyone who comes to me and listens to my words and puts them into practice – I will show you what he is like:

But he replied to them, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it.”

He said to them, “Take nothing for your journey – no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, and do not take an extra tunic.

Wherever they do not receive you, as you leave that town, shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”

When the apostles returned, they told Jesus everything they had done. Then he took them with him and they withdrew privately to a town called Bethsaida.

Now when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do you want us to call fire to come down from heaven and consume them?”

Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him as a guest.

Then he said to them, “Suppose one of you has a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread,

So you testify that you approve of the deeds of your ancestors, because they killed the prophets and you build their tombs!
