At the commandment of the Lord the Israelites would begin their journey, and at the commandment of the Lord they would make camp; as long as the cloud remained settled over the tabernacle they would camp.

The standard of the camp of the Danites set out, which was the rear guard of all the camps by their companies; over his company was Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai.

From where shall I get meat to give to this entire people, for they cry to me, ‘Give us meat, that we may eat!’

Would they have enough if the flocks and herds were slaughtered for them? If all the fish of the sea were caught for them, would they have enough?”

Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for me? I wish that all the Lord’s people were prophets, that the Lord would put his Spirit on them!”

So Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran at the command of the Lord. All of them were leaders of the Israelites.

They said to the whole community of the Israelites, “The land we passed through to investigate is an exceedingly good land.

I, the Lord, have said, “I will surely do so to all this evil congregation that has gathered together against me. In this wilderness they will be finished, and there they will die!”’”

The men whom Moses sent to investigate the land, who returned and made the whole community murmur against him by producing an evil report about the land,

“‘If you sin unintentionally and do not observe all these commandments that the Lord has spoken to Moses –

all that the Lord has commanded you by the authority of Moses, from the day that the Lord commanded Moses and continuing through your future generations –

Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses and Aaron and to the whole community.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “The man must surely be put to death; the whole community must stone him with stones outside the camp.”

So the whole community took him outside the camp and stoned him to death, just as the Lord commanded Moses.

Therefore you and all your company have assembled together against the Lord! And Aaron – what is he that you murmur against him?”

Then Moses said to Korah, “You and all your company present yourselves before the Lord – you and they, and Aaron – tomorrow.

Then Moses said, “This is how you will know that the Lord has sent me to do all these works, for I have not done them of my own will.

They and all that they had went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed over them. So they perished from among the community.

But on the next day the whole community of Israelites murmured against Moses and Aaron, saying, “You have killed the Lord’s people!”

They must join with you, and they will be responsible for the care of the tent of meeting, for all the service of the tent, but no unauthorized person may approach you.
