“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’

They said to him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.”

Then Pharisees and experts in the law came from Jerusalem to Jesus and said,

What is your verdict?” They answered, “He is guilty and deserves death.”

Now there were five thousand men who ate the bread.

So the child’s father and mother were amazed at what was said about him.

But he passed through the crowd and went on his way.

Others, to test him, began asking for a sign from heaven.

“And why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right?

When he heard a crowd going by, he asked what was going on.

After Jesus had said this, he continued on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.

These things happened in Bethany across the Jordan River where John was baptizing.

By now a strong wind was blowing and the sea was getting rough.

It was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple area in Solomon’s Portico.

The other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he replied, “Unless I see the wounds from the nails in his hands, and put my finger into the wounds from the nails, and put my hand into his side, I will never believe it!”

On the next day, their rulers, elders, and experts in the law came together in Jerusalem.

until another king who did not know about Joseph ruled over Egypt.
