He said to them, “This is my blood, the blood of the covenant, that is poured out for many.

He took Peter, James, and John with him, and became very troubled and distressed.

He said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, even to the point of death. Remain here and stay alert.”

Jesus said to them, “Have you come with swords and clubs to arrest me like you would an outlaw?

Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “Why do we still need witnesses?

So Pilate asked him again, “Have you nothing to say? See how many charges they are bringing against you!”

So Pilate asked them, “Do you want me to release the king of the Jews for you?”

So the soldiers led him into the palace (that is, the governor’s residence) and called together the whole cohort.

Pilate was surprised that he was already dead. He called the centurion and asked him if he had been dead for some time.

After this he appeared in a different form to two of them while they were on their way to the country.

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

Now the people were waiting for Zechariah, and they began to wonder why he was delayed in the holy place.

After some time his wife Elizabeth became pregnant, and for five months she kept herself in seclusion. She said,

He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will never end.”

They said to her, “But none of your relatives bears this name.”

He asked for a writing tablet and wrote, “His name is John.” And they were all amazed.
