“One man dies in his full vigor, completely secure and prosperous,

“Yes, I know what you are thinking, the schemes by which you would wrong me.

let him weigh me with honest scales; then God will discover my integrity.

“But now, O Job, listen to my words, and hear everything I have to say!

Yet God finds occasions with me; he regards me as his enemy!

With my knowledge I will speak comprehensively, and to my Creator I will ascribe righteousness.

His thunder announces the coming storm, the cattle also, concerning the storm’s approach.

God thunders with his voice in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding.

Then from the wicked the light is withheld, and the arm raised in violence is broken.

On it the quiver rattles; the lance and javelin flash.

Why do the nations rebel? Why are the countries devising plots that will fail?

They say, “Let’s tear off the shackles they’ve put on us! Let’s free ourselves from their ropes!”

See the one who is pregnant with wickedness, who conceives destructive plans, and gives birth to harmful lies –

For you deliver oppressed people, but you bring down those who have a proud look.

May he send you help from his temple; from Zion may he give you support!

They are dividing up my clothes among themselves; they are rolling dice for my garments.

Watch my enemies, for they outnumber me; they hate me and want to harm me.

Be strong and confident, all you who wait on the Lord!

Magnify the Lord with me! Let’s praise his name together!
