He happened to see<n id="1" /> a solid<n id="2" /> jawbone of a donkey. He grabbed it<n id="3" /> and struck down<n id="4" /> a thousand men.

Samson then said,p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;With the jawbone of a donkeyp> <p class="poetry">I have left them in heaps;<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">with the jawbone of a donkeyp> <p class="poetry">I have struck down a thousand men!&#8221;p>

Eighteen thousand Benjaminites, all of them capable warriors, fell dead.

<p class="bodytext">Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor with their armies. There were about fifteen thousand survivors from the army of the eastern peoples; a hundred and twenty thousand sword-wielding soldiers had been killed.<n id="1" />

The men of Israel (not counting Benjamin) had mustered four hundred thousand sword-wielding soldiers, every one an experienced warrior.<n id="1" />p>

The Benjaminites attacked from Gibeah and struck down twenty-two thousand Israelites that day.<n id="1" />p>

That day twenty-five thousand<n id="1" /> sword-wielding Benjaminites fell in battle, all of them capable warriors.<n id="2" />

Now, announce to the men,<n id="1" /> &#8216;Whoever is shaking with fear<n id="2" /> may turn around and leave Mount Gilead.&#8217;&#8221;<n id="3" /> Twenty-two thousand men<n id="4" /> went home;<n id="5" /> ten thousand remained.

On that day forty-two thousand Ephraimites fell dead.

The rulers of the Philistines went up to visit her and said to her, &#8220;Trick him! Find out what makes him so strong and how we can subdue him and humiliate<n id="1" /> him. Each one of us will give you eleven hundred silver pieces.&#8221;p>

When he gave back to his mother the eleven hundred pieces of silver, his mother said, &#8220;I solemnly dedicate<n id="1" /> this silver to the <sc>Lordsc>. It will be for my son&#8217;s benefit. We will use it to make a carved image and a metal image.&#8221;<n id="2" />

That day the Benjaminites mustered from their cities twenty-six thousand sword-wielding soldiers, besides seven hundred well-trained soldiers from Gibeah.<n id="1" />

The Benjaminites again attacked them from Gibeah and struck down eighteen thousand sword-wielding Israelite soldiers.<n id="1" />p>

The <sc>Lordsc> annihilated Benjamin before Israel; the Israelites struck down that day 25,100 sword-wielding Benjaminites.<n id="1" />

So the assembly sent 12,000 capable warriors<n id="1" /> against Jabesh Gilead.<n id="2" /> They commanded them, &#8220;Go and kill with your swords<n id="3" /> the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead, including the women and little children.
