“Seventy weeks ¹  have been determined concerning your people and your holy city to put an end to ²  rebellion, to bring sin ³  to completion, ⁴  to atone for iniquity, to bring in perpetual ⁵  righteousness, to seal up ⁶  the prophetic vision, ⁷  and to anoint a most holy place. ⁸ 

Then King Nebuchadnezzar bowed down with his face to the ground ¹  and paid homage to Daniel. He gave orders to offer sacrifice and incense to him.

Now I have come to help you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision pertains to future days.”

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied to King Nebuchadnezzar, ¹  “We do not need to give you a reply ²  concerning this.

He spoke with me, instructing me as follows: ¹  “Daniel, I have now come to impart understanding to you.

“Please test your servants for ten days by providing us with some vegetables to eat and water to drink.

Then Daniel spoke to ¹  the king, “O king, live forever!

They said ¹  to King Nebuchadnezzar, “O king, live forever! ² 

So these supervisors and satraps came by collusion ¹  to the king and said ²  to him, “O King Darius, live forever!

While he was saying this to me, ¹  I was flat on ²  the ground and unable to speak.

Then the king departed to his palace. But he spent the night without eating, and no diversions ¹  were brought to him. He was unable to sleep. ² 

They said to leave the taproot of the tree, for your kingdom will be restored to you when you come to understand that heaven ¹  rules.

And in the first year of Darius the Mede, I ¹  stood to strengthen him and to provide protection for him.)

Now all of this happened ¹  to King Nebuchadnezzar.

We have not paid attention to your servants the prophets, who spoke by your authority ¹  to our kings, our leaders, and our ancestors, ²  and to all the inhabitants ³  of the land as well.

He said to me, “To 2,300 evenings and mornings; ¹  then the sanctuary will be put right again.” ² 

So all the king’s wise men came in, but they were unable to read the writing or to make known its ¹  interpretation to the king.

He said to me, “Daniel, you are of great value. ¹  Understand the words that I am about to ²  speak to you. So stand up, ³  for I have now been sent to you.” When he said this ⁴  to me, I stood up shaking.

It seemed like a good idea to Darius ¹  to appoint over the kingdom 120 satraps ²  who would be in charge of the entire kingdom.

Then Daniel went in to see ¹  Arioch (whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon). He came ²  and said to him, “Don’t destroy the wise men of Babylon! Escort me ³  to the king, and I will disclose the interpretation to him!” ⁴
