But the one who did not know his master&#8217;s will<n id="1" /> and did things worthy of punishment<n id="2" /> will receive a light beating.<n id="3" /> From everyone who has been given much, much will be required,<n id="4" /> and from the one who has been entrusted with much,<n id="5" /> even more will be asked.<n id="6" />p>

Or those eighteen who were killed<n id="1" /> when the tower in Siloam fell on them,<n id="2" /> do you think they were worse offenders than all the others who live in Jerusalem?<n id="3" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> told this parable: &#8220;A man had a fig tree<n id="3" /> planted in his vineyard, and he came looking for fruit on it and found none.

Then the Lord answered him,<n id="1" /> &#8220;You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from its stall,<n id="2" /> and lead it to water?<n id="3" />

But one after another they all<n id="1" /> began to make excuses.<n id="2" /> The first said to him, &#8216;I have bought a field,<n id="3" /> and I must go out and see it. Please excuse me.&#8217;<n id="4" />

&#8220;Which one<n id="1" /> of you, if he has a hundred<n id="2" /> sheep and loses one of them, would not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture<n id="3" /> and go look for<n id="4" /> the one that is lost until he finds it?<n id="5" />

The slave replied,<n id="1" /> &#8216;Your brother has returned, and your father has killed the fattened calf<n id="2" /> because he got his son<n id="3" /> back safe and sound.&#8217;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Jesus<n id="1" /> also said to the disciples, &#8220;There was a rich man who was informed of accusations<n id="2" /> that his manager<n id="3" /> was wasting<n id="4" /> his assets.

So<n id="1" /> he called the manager<n id="2" /> in and said to him, &#8216;What is this I hear about you?<n id="3" /> Turn in the account of your administration,<n id="4" /> because you can no longer be my manager.&#8217;

So<n id="1" /> he called out,<n id="2" /> &#8216;Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus<n id="3" /> to dip the tip of his finger<n id="4" /> in water and cool my tongue, because I am in anguish<n id="5" /> in this fire.&#8217;<n id="6" />

On that day, anyone who is on the roof,<n id="1" /> with his goods in the house, must not come down<n id="2" /> to take them away, and likewise the person in the field must not turn back.

But Jesus called for the children,<n id="1" /> saying, &#8220;Let the little children come to me and do not try to stop them, for the kingdom of God<n id="2" /> belongs to such as these.<n id="3" />

When<n id="1" /> he returned after receiving the kingdom, he summoned<n id="2" /> these slaves to whom he had given the money. He wanted<n id="3" /> to know how much they had earned<n id="4" /> by trading.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> they watched him carefully and sent spies who pretended to be sincere.<n id="2" /> They wanted to take advantage of what he might say<n id="3" /> so that they could deliver him up to the authority and jurisdiction<n id="4" /> of the governor.

They asked him,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Teacher, Moses wrote for us that <i><b>ifb> <b>a man&#8217;s brother dies leavingb>i> a wife but <b><i>no children, that mani>b><n id="2" /> <i><b>must marryb>i><n id="3" /> <i><b>the widow and father childrenb>i><n id="4" /> <i><b>for his brotherb>i>.<n id="5" />

He said to them, &#8220;Listen,<n id="1" /> when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water<n id="2" /> will meet you.<n id="3" /> Follow him into the house that he enters,

He said to them, &#8220;But now, the one who<n id="1" /> has a money bag must take it, and likewise a traveler&#8217;s bag<n id="2" /> too. And the one who has no sword must sell his cloak and buy one.

and said to them, &#8220;You brought me this man as one who was misleading<n id="1" /> the people. When I examined him before you, I<n id="2" /> did not find this man guilty<n id="3" /> of anything you accused him of doing.

Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who doesn&#8217;t know<n id="2" /> the things that have happened there<n id="3" /> in these days?&#8221;

He<n id="1" /> said to them, &#8220;What things?&#8221; &#8220;The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene,&#8221; they replied, &#8220;a man<n id="2" /> who, with his powerful deeds and words, proved to be a prophet<n id="3" /> before God and all the people;
