Jephthah approached ¹  the Ammonites to fight with them, and the Lord handed them over to him.

They paid him seventy silver shekels out of the temple of Baal-Berith. Abimelech then used the silver to hire some lawless, dangerous ¹  men as his followers. ² 

So he brought him to his house and fed the donkeys. They washed their feet and had a meal. ¹ 

The men of Judah attacked, ¹  and the Lord handed the Canaanites and Perizzites over to them. They killed ten thousand men at Bezek.

The Israelites did evil in the Lord’s sight, ¹  so the Lord turned them over to ²  Midian for seven years.

Caleb received ¹  Hebron, just as Moses had promised. He drove out the three Anakites.

The Lord God of Israel handed Sihon and his whole army over to Israel and they defeated them. Israel took ¹  all the land of the Amorites who lived in that land.

The Israelites again did evil in the Lord’s sight, ¹  so the Lord handed them over to the Philistines for forty years.

Then the Benjaminites saw they were defeated. The Israelites retreated before ¹  Benjamin, because they had confidence in the men they had hid in ambush outside Gibeah.

He scooped it up with his hands and ate it as he walked along. When he returned ¹  to his father and mother, he offered them some and they ate it. But he did not tell them he had scooped the honey out of the lion’s carcass. ² 

The Lord’s spirit empowered him ¹  and he led Israel. When he went to do battle, the Lord handed over to him King Cushan-Rishathaim of Aram and he overpowered him. ² 

He had thirty sons. He arranged for thirty of his daughters to be married outside his extended family, ¹  and he arranged for thirty young women to be brought from outside as wives for his sons. ²  Ibzan ³  led ⁴  Israel for seven years;

The Lord was furious with Israel ¹  and handed them over to robbers who plundered them. ²  He turned them over to ³  their enemies who lived around them. They could not withstand their enemies’ attacks. ⁴ 

When I saw that you were not going to help, ¹  I risked my life ²  and advanced against ³  the Ammonites, and the Lord handed them over to me. Why have you come up ⁴  to fight with me today?”

She cried on his shoulder ¹  until the party was almost over. ²  Finally, on the seventh day, he told her because she had nagged him so much. ³  Then she told the young men the solution to the riddle. ⁴ 

They named that place Bokim ¹  and offered sacrifices to the Lord there.

They abandoned the Lord and worshiped Baal and the Ashtars. ¹ 

The wisest of her ladies ¹  answer; indeed she even thinks to herself,

It was to you that God handed over the Midianite generals, Oreb and Zeeb! What did I accomplish to rival that?” ¹  When he said this, they calmed down. ² 

When the Lord’s messenger finished speaking these words to all the Israelites, the people wept loudly. ¹
