I have not written to you that<n id="1" /> you do not know the truth, but that<n id="2" /> you do know it, and that<n id="3" /> no lie is of the truth.

Everyone who hates his fellow Christian<n id="1" /> is a murderer,<n id="2" /> and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing<n id="3" /> in him.

that<n id="1" /> if our conscience condemns<n id="2" /> us, that<n id="3" /> God is greater than our conscience and knows all things.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Dear friends, do not believe every spirit,<n id="1" /> but test<n id="2" /> the spirits<n id="3" /> to determine<n id="4" /> if they are from God, because many false prophets<n id="5" /> have gone out into the world.

By this<n id="1" /> you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses<n id="2" /> Jesus as the Christ<n id="3" /> who has come in the flesh is from God,

No one has seen God at any time.<n id="1" /> If we love one another, God resides<n id="2" /> in us, and his love is perfected in us.<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">If anyone<n id="1" /> confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God resides<n id="2" /> in him and he in God.

<p class="bodytext">And this is the confidence that we have before him: that<n id="1" /> whenever<n id="2" /> we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

<p class="bodytext">Now as for you, the anointing<n id="1" /> that you received from him<n id="2" /> resides<n id="3" /> in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you. But as his<n id="4" /> anointing teaches you about all things, it is true and is not a lie. Just as<n id="5" /> it<n id="6" /> has taught you, you reside<n id="7" /> in him.p>

We are from God; the person who knows God listens to us, but<n id="1" /> whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this<n id="2" /> we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of deceit.<n id="3" />p>

And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us insight to know<n id="1" /> him who is true, and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This one<n id="2" /> is the true God and eternal life.

<t /><p class="bodytext">This is what we proclaim to you:<n id="1" /> what was from the beginning,<n id="2" /> what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and our hands have touched (concerning the word of life &#8211;

and the life was revealed, and we have seen and testify and announce<n id="1" /> to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us).<n id="2" />

But if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses<n id="1" /> us from all sin.<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning.<n id="1" /> The old commandment is the word that you have already<n id="2" /> heard.

On the other hand, I am writing a new commandment to you which is true in him<n id="1" /> and in you, because<n id="2" /> the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.<n id="3" />

But the one who hates his fellow Christian<n id="1" /> is in the darkness, walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.<n id="2" />p>

I have written to you, children, that<n id="1" /> you have known the Father.<n id="2" /> I have written to you, fathers, that<n id="3" /> you have known him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young people, that<n id="4" /> you are strong, and the word of God resides in you, and you have conquered the evil one.p>

<p class="bodytext">(See what sort of love the Father has given to us: that<n id="1" /> we should be called God&#8217;s children &#8211; and indeed<n id="2" /> we are!<n id="3" /> For this reason<n id="4" /> the world does not know us: because it did not know him.<n id="5" />

The one who practices sin is of the devil,<n id="1" /> because the devil has been sinning<n id="2" /> from the beginning. For this purpose<n id="3" /> the Son of God was revealed: to destroy<n id="4" /> the works of the devil.
